Wedding At The Mason | Dallas, Tx | Bridget + Edward Idowu

May 12, 2022

Bridget and Edward’s wedding at The Mason was the result of an irresistible secret office romance! When it was clear that the love was real, they knew it was time to head to the altar! The blended timeless American wedding styles with the Nigerian wedding traditions of Edward’s culture! Here are some Nigerian wedding traditions we love to see!

Money Rain

One fun wedding tradition they included was raining money on the bride and groom! This Nigerian tradition involves the couple dancing and the guests joining them and raining money over them. There is no standard amount, as it’s entirely up to the guest’s discretion. Typically, the bridesmaids will collect the money after the dance for the happy couple. Although this is so much fun, it’s also heartfelt as it is the guests’ way of thanking the couple for allowing them to be a part of their special day!

Party Favors

Another interesting part of Nigerian weddings is the gifts! And I don’t mean the gifts that the couple receives from the guests, I mean the gifts the couple gives to the guests. Yes, it is not uncommon for the couple to hand out some kind of gift to their guests. These gifts could include the couple’s names and photo with the wedding date. Cups or glasses are common, but the gifts depend on what the couple choose to give. These tokens are a way to thank the guests for coming and help commemorate the day!

Who’s invited?

If you’re looking for a special invitation to a Nigerian wedding, do not be surprised if you don’t receive a card in the mail. Nigerian weddings do not always have set guest lists, which means there will be plenty of people who simply show up for the occasion. People who choose to be there are allowed to come in and share in the couple’s happiness!

Time to eat!

You may be thinking “If there’s no guest list, what about the food?” Don’t worry, it’s handled! When you come to a Nigerian wedding, you won’t leave with an empty belly! There will be an abundance of food to accommodate the guests.
